Student Expectations

Lee students and staff work toward a high standard of academic achievement. Student needs are met through a coordinated curriculum that emphasizes basic skills. By using the New California Standards and curriculum guidelines, all students strive to maximize growth in areas of self-esteem, math, reading, writing, oral language, health, science, social-science, fine arts and physical education.


Students have a clear understanding of their expectations both academically and behaviorally, and these are reinforced by the staff on a regular basis. Parents are a vital part of the development of student home-study habits and frequent home/school communication. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers if they have any questions.


Attendance Policies and Procedures

The Lee School staff is committed to providing an educational program that will benefit all students. In order to provide such a program, consistent student attendance is essential.
In order to meet state absence requirements, it is necessary that each absence be explained by contact from a parent.  A student who is absent must bring a note from a parent explaining the specific reason for his absence on the first day back at school. This note should be given to the teacher who will forward it to the office. I parents prefer, a phone call to the school office on the day of the absence or before they return, will satisfy this requirement. Cal 815-5269.

Absences are excused for illness, medical appointments or bereavement (death in the family).  In case of extended illness (three days or more), school assignments may be requested by a parent through the main office and picked up the next day.

Students with perfect attendance may be awarded monthly, quarterly and yearly with special recognition at the end of the year. Perfect attendance is defined as NO absences and NO tardies.

A.C.T. Program: Abolishing Chronic Truancy

Lee Elementary School is part of the A.C.T. program which is run by the Los Angeles County District Attorneys office. The purpose of the program is to insure that all of our students have good attendance. The attendance of students is monitored o a frequent basis. Parents of students who have excessive absences (excused or unexcused) or tardies will be referred to the program.

Tardy Policy

Punctuality, especially as it relates to school attendance, is a responsibility of the student and a critical factor in the instructional program of a school. When arriving late to school the student is to go directly to the office. He/She will be given a pass for admittance to class.

We offer a voluntary uniform which is described in the uniform brochure. Students' appearance reflects Lee as an educational institution, the daily uniform will be appropriate to a good learning atmosphere.

If a uniform is not worn the administration expects that the clothing a student wears falls within the AUSD Dress Code Policy:

A. All clothing must be suitable for school; neat, clean, size appropriate, not frayed, and in good repair.

B. Clothing and jewelry shall be free of writing, pictures or any other insignia which:

(1) are crude, violent, vulgar, profane, prejudicial, or sexually
(2) advocate the use of drugs or alcohol
(3) by manner of being worn, indicate an affiliation with a group or
gang which may provoke violence or cause others to be intimidated

C. Belt buckles with lettering shall not be allowed, and length of belt shall be appropriate for waist size.

D. Hats, caps, bandannas, or hair nets shall not be worn. Exception: hats are allowed 1) for health related reasons when accompanied by a doctor's note, 2) at extracurricular outdoor activities grades 9?12 held after the regular school day, except those by manner of being worn, Indicate an affiliation with a group or gang which may provoke violence or cause others to be intimidated.

E. Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through or fish-bet fabrics, halter tops, off-the-shoulder or low-cut top, tank tops, bare midriffs and skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh are prohibited.

F. Shoes must be worn at all times. Thongs, thong-like sandals, and steel-toed shoes are not acceptable.

G. School sites may implement a voluntary uniform dress policy provided there in demonstrated parental support.

The superintendent is authorized to establish the necessary procedures to implement the purpose of this policy.

Child Safety Information

Since children are back to school and many of them walk or ride their bikes, we wanted to share some safety tips with our community to keep our most precious residents safe and secure.!

Parents - Talk With Your Children

As parents, we have many things we have to be aware of and think about on a daily basis. For this article, we're going to focus on keeping children out of the hands of abductors. We don't want you to teach your children to only stay away from strangers, since an abductor could be someone your child knows. The most important thing is to talk with your children!  Know where your children are at all times. If they are walking home from school, make sure you have a designated route and

know the amount of time it should take them to get home. Teach your children that they have to check in with you at all times before they go somewhere. If they come home to an empty

house because you are at work, make sure they call you and check in. Teach your children at an early age key phone numbers, such as home, your work and cell numbers, and 911. Quiz your

children to make sure they know the numbers, as well as how to use the phone. Show your children safe places they can go in the event they become scared or need help, and you're not around. Tell your children if they ever feel scared, they should get away as fast as possible and tell another adult what happened. Encourage your children to play with other children. Abductors don't like witnesses. If you are visiting somewhere that is crowded, and there is a potential you may become separated from your children, snap a photo at the beginning of the visit so you know what they are wearing and can show law enforcement in the event you need help finding them. Let your children know that a dangerous person can look just like a nice person. Encourage children to trust their instincts. Teach your children to make the biggest commotion in a store if someone ever tries to take them - Let them know it's okay to throw a tantrum, knock things down, kick and scream!

• Children should not be allowed to play in dimly lit, or secluded areas. Carports, alleys, laundry rooms, public restrooms and dark areas are not meant for un-supervised children.

Teach 'Em "No, Go, Yell, Tell" Teach your children to tell an abductor "No" when they ask for help or directions, or want your child to get in a vehicle or go into a building with them. Then tell them to "Go" - Run as fast as they can away from the possible abductor. While they are running, tell them to "Yell" as loud as they can. They need to bring attention to themselves, and it's okay to do it in this case! Last, they need to "Tell" an adult what happened!

Padres - Hablen con sus hijos

Como padres de familia,  tenemos muchas cosas que tenemos que tomar en cuenta y pensar diariamente.  Para este artículo, nos enfocaremos en mantener a los niños fuera de las manos de los secuestradores.  No queremos que usted enseñe a sus hijos el que se mantengan alejados de extraños, ya que el secuestrador podría ser alguien que su hijo o hija conoce.  Lo más importante es hablar con sus hijos.

  • Sepa dónde están sus hijos en todo momento. Si ellos están caminando a casa desde la escuela, asegúrese de que tienen una ruta designada y saber el tiempo que les llevaría llegar a casa.
  • Enseñe a sus hijos que deben consultar con usted en todo momento antes de ir a algún lugar. Si llegan a casa y nadie está, ya sea porque usted está trabajando, asegúrese de que se reporten con una llamada telefónica.
  • Enseñe a sus hijos a una temprana edad los números de teléfono importantes, tales como el del hogar, el de su trabajo, números celulares y 911. Cuestione a sus hijos para asegurarse de que saben los números, así como la forma de utilizar el teléfono.
  • Enseñe a sus hijos los lugares seguros donde puedan ir en caso de que se asusten o necesiten ayuda, si usted no está presente.

  • Anime a sus hijos a jugar con otros niños. Los secuestradores no les gusta los testigos.
  • Si va a visitar algún lugar que esté concurrido, y con la posibilidad de que se separe de sus hijos, tome una fotografía al comienzo de la visita para que sepa lo que están vistiendo y así mostrarlo a la policía en caso de que necesite ayuda para encontrar a sus hijos.
  • Hágale saber a sus hijos que una persona peligrosa puede tener el aspecto como de una buena persona. Anime a los niños a confiar en sus instintos.
  • Enseñe a sus hijos a hacer un gran alboroto si alguien trata de molestarlos en una tienda - Hágales saber que está bien que tiren cosas, pateen o griten.
  • A los niños no se les debe permitir jugar en áreas poco iluminadas o aisladas.  No deje solos a sus hijos en cocheras, callejones, lavanderías, baños públicos o zonas oscuras.

Enseñe a sus hijos a decir “No, Correr,  Gritar y Reportar”

Enseñe a sus niños a decir al secuestrador "No" cuando piden ayuda o direcciones, o la persona quiere que su hijo(a) entre al vehículo o a un edificio con ellos.  Entonces dígales que “Corran” – Correr lo más rápido que puedan y lejos del posible secuestrador.  Mientras que estén corriendo, dígales que “Griten” lo más fuerte posible.  ¡Asegúreles que está bien llamar la atención!  Por último, tienen que "Reportar" a un adulto lo que pasó.


Las contraseñas no son solo para computadoras

Por encima de todo, enseñe a sus hijos una contraseña que sólo conocen personas de confianza.  Explique que si alguien se acerca a ellos y dice que su mamá o papá  los mandó a recoger, tienen que pedir a la persona., "¿Cuál es la contraseña?" Si la persona no la sabe, entonces va ser el momento de  decir  "No, Correr, Gritar y Reportar."


Ayude a La Policía Ayude a su Hijo

Se dice con frecuencia como broma y aunque es una de las peores cosas que puede usted decir a un niño cuando se encuentre con un agente de policía es algo así como: "Es mejor que te comportes o la policía te va a llevar a la cárcel." Al hacer esto, su hijo(a) puede hacerse a la idea de que lo van a llevar lejos de la seguridad y protección de sus padres, y lo que nosotros queremos es poner a los niños en la cárcel.  Realmente, esto es un gran error, lo que queremos es que los niños sepan que pueden dirigirse a un oficial de policía en cualquier momento que estén en problemas o que necesiten ayuda.

A menu is sent home monthly with students.  The cost of lunch is $1.50.  Students who wish to only purchase milk may do so for $.30.  Please remember to fill out a new lunch application if you think your child would qualify for free or reduced lunch.  The cost for reduced lunch is $.25.The cost for breakfast is $1.00.  If your child receives free or reduced lunch, this would also apply to breakfast.  Applications may be picked up in the office.
